In 1988, the showroom stock racing 1LE option was first available. However, only 3 were produced. Then in 1989, the option became more well known as 26 were produced that year. The 1LE package was basically the top-of-the-line suspension and handling package above the WS6 option but 1LE also included a few other "goodies". For 1988, 1989, and 1990 the package was only available on the Trans Am but then in 1991 it also became available on the Formula too. It wasn't really just an option package that could order, you more or less had to order other certain other options that would "trigger" 1LE.

        Also, most people tend to think that 1LE cars cannot have A/C or power accessories or even Fog lights but as a matter of fact, there are real 1LE cars with these options. Canadian cars for example have fog lights. Also, most did have power windows. In addition, allot of 91/92 cars had A/C too such as the Firehawk.

The package was obtained by ordering the following with you Trans Am or Formula:
 

5.0 TPI engine with 5 speed or 5.7 TPI engine
G92 which also gave you N10, J65, and KC4
Air conditioning delete
 

The package usually consisted of:

Aluminum driveshaft
Performance exhaust system
Special deflected disc shocks
Aluminum spare wheel with smaller spare tire
Lower control arms
Larger (11.86 inch) front rotors
Larger front spindles
PBR front, dual-piston aluminum calipers
Special swinging fuel pickup in gas tank and special 18 gallon baffled fuel tank for fuel pickup down to
.5 gallon reserve to prevent fuel starvation in hard cornering
Some came with special 16" x 8" light alloy mesh wheels
